This is beginning to get scary. Jeez, no wonder I'm so in such a big hurry to get the Vdub on the road. Just waiting for the paperwork in the mail. I have even already put insurance on it and waiting on the title from NC, cuz I'll be damned if I am going to register it here. Have Alaska plates on the rest of my stuff so I'm going to do this the same way.
The diesel checks are not as rare as you think. Just north of Tucson on I-10 there were periodic checks for farm diesel. I got pulled over twice in less than a two year span. Both times it was as I was approaching the I-10 on ramps. I guess they figure being that close to the cotton fields and a major interstate is just to tempting for the locals.
Once it was the Pima sheriffs and the other it was AZ HP. However, both of them stuck both frame rail tanks and the bed tank. The Pima cops even had the drug dogs, undercarriage mirrors, as well as the tank dips, I think maybe they were trying to fill up the city coffers. Even had to prove that my propane tank actually carried propane! If Heatstroked is still on the forum he may of experienced a few as he's always traveling that stretch of pavement.
Since I've been stationed here in Ohio I've heard from a coworker about a roaming inspection area, way out in the farming communities, but I never seen or heard of any others.
Not that hard to find here, there's a 7-11(rippy mart) about 5 miles from my house that has off road (clearly marked by the way) diesel in one bay and regular diesel in the next bay. Last time I checked it was about 20cents cheaper, not worth the huge fine. rugerman
The 20 cents is also true in NC and I agree, but in NY it is a 60 cents difference. The place I frequent when I am there has 4 diesel pumps, 3 of one color and 1 of the other. You figure out what everyone is using.
Anytime you carry one of these transfer tanks in the back of your truck, its like a flag going up to be checked. I only use road diesel in my tank for my road trips.

I use 2 stoke in my fuel and she said nothing. We only used our aux tank when doing road trips. Now that the rubber hoses are crap from the AZ sun we (I) need to replace those before we do 2k miles in 4 days next month.
