Are the early 90 5.8L engines any good? I have a lead on 2 of them. They both came out of Crowne Vic's. Also what is better? EFI or Carb? I know I would have to do some wiring harnes swaps and so on.
They are decent engines, although they have 2 bolt mains which limits how much you can do with forced induction and NOS. EFI is always better, gets much better milage, more reliable, and makes a lot more horsepower than an equal carburated engine. The only thing that sucks about EFI is the emissions equipment. If you could get an aftermarket open loop system like the Holley Commander systems that would be great.
OK. Cool. I was kind of against the idea of doing that kind of swap but the more I thought about it the more I want to do. Nothing like popping the hood on the ole girl to see a nice new engien set up looking back at you. I will stop by the yard later to get a price for it. Hopefull yhte guy will take it easy on me. LOL Yeah right. Do you think the article under the tech section will cover 351's with EFI? Well there is only one way to find out. Oh here's another interesting thought. Would I have to change the transmission or would I be able to use the C-4 I have? Personally I don't want to change it out. Thanks HP.
Ok a few more stupid questions. Can you swap the carb, intake, and distributor off of a 74 for use on a 91 EFI engine? I believe the newer engine has a roller cam in it and I would end up changing the dist gear. Not to mention the timing cover, and possibly the water pump (due to the belts if I swap them). What are all of the options? Also what is the cc size of the newer heads compared to the 74? Thanks guys.

I don't think this one has a roller cam, but I could be wrong. But, yes, all of the accessories, and the intake can be swapped.
When you swap off the parts, I'd like to make an offer on them. I have a machined 84 bare block, crank, and rods that needs everything.
Edit; The heads - you've got good heads already. I think the 9? heads will have smaller valves. And I believe that your heads are about 67cc +-.
And, yes, the C4 and C6 for Windsors will work on this engine.
