Went to swap heads out on my 2.9 Bronco. Got to the exhaust manifolds and some "NUT" managed to round the boltheads off bout half of em' I guess after changing the gaskets. So, gonna have to pull heads with manifolds still attached and then grind the boltheads off. Question: How do you manage to get the bolts out of the exhaust manifolds from the crossover flanges??? Looks to me like Ford jammed the engine in there with the crossover already attached. Ya can't get to the bolts from underneath and I can't see how in the world you could get to em' from above!!! Any suggestions would really be appreciated cause I'm bout to "pull my hair out" messing with this thing!!!
I concur,
I just removed the exhaust system from my 88 B2. What a pain. You gotta get creative with the extension and swivels, oh and a cheeter bar doesn't hurt either. I also had to use my Craftsman stripped bolt remover tools to get the Y pipe to cat joint apart. Love this tool now! Good luck on yours.
I 'd remove the front fenders with the inner plastic attached. (It's a pain to get the rusted phillips screw off). Then you will have more room to work on bigger problems.
I guess by the time I got to the Exhaust Manifolds everything had gone so smoothly that when I saw or felt those rounded off bolt heads and then seen what a major B___H it was gonna be to get the Manifolds off I freaked. After reading this evening what you guys posted I went out and took a look at my little Bronco and after climbing up on my milk crate and carefully and CALMLY taking a look at it I think you are right. I think I CAN get to those thing from underneath and like one of you said, I'll just have to get creative. And like one of you said, If I CAN'T for some reason get them out I can sure pull the fenders and get to em". Guys, I really apprecciate all your' help!!! Been on this website for a couple of years now and I've never been disappointed!
