I finally caved and payed for the SCT DPF delete tune.
Surprise, surprise the new firmware was not compatible with my manual tranny. I spent many hours on the phone with them and finally got it loaded, but now I can't do anything on my LiveWire updater on my computer. I keep getting error messages, I can't even reformat the programmer.
Right now I'm just running a cat back DPF delete pipe. Gotten a good increase in mileage, 20+ mpg, and a nice low sound that should be better when I get the full turbo back delete pipe.
When I do the full install I will make a detailed post with pictures of the pipe install and putting the stacks on.
Sorry to hear about your problems. Glad to see you were at least able to get one of the programs in. I've never had the Updater Software itself actually malfunction during the interface though...that one is strange.
I would have more seriously considered using the SCT stuff here at Spartan if they would have ever gotten it ready for the X3 like the promised. These Livewires have been absolutely plagued with issues, and reasons such as this is why I have such a distaste for them.
Well for some reason SCT really does not think about manual trannys when making their tunes. I bought my LiveWire right after they came out and after months of annoying them I finally got the update that makes it work with my truck.
Spending the money for this tune was the last thing I wanted to do, but diesel just hit $4 a gallon here and keeps going up, I need all the mileage I can get. I average 40k miles a year on a truck.
You will get some mileage gains, but some are better than others. I've always gotten great mileage with my truck. Normally I would average about 17.5-18.5 on the highway, but just from my drive w/o the DPF yesterday I went up 2-3 mpg. Which is great but it just isn't enough time yet for a definite number. It should be a few more days and I'll get some stats for everyone, but I expect the numbers to be very positive.
And I should be getting my 5" turbo back pipe in later this week. Hopefully I'll have enough time to test the cat back system then compare it to the turbo back.
From what I have been reading all over this site (and others), part of the reason he is getting decent mileage is the manual trans. The auto people don't want to hear this but the slush box eats several miles to the gallon. Look at the size of the cooler needed for the trans, That heat it is disipating is not free.
Talk to the people who have them, they will tell you.

And your point would be.......those who have a auto don't deserve better mileage?
Got another update for mileage. Got 23 mpg yesterday mornin with a good 20 mph tailwind. On the way back driving into the wind dropped down to 17 mpg.
As long as I can keep the boost below 10 psi I'm getting 20+mpg.
Did a lot of work on the rig today. Finally took off the rest of the tailpipe which was just hanging there. Found something interesting, the muffler is fake. It's just a regular steel pipe strait through it, not baffles or ports or nothin. Fixed the rear dually fender that I cracked when I ran over my mud flaps, and raised the mud flaps about 4" so it doesn't happen again.
And I ended up having a little fun and seeing how much smoke I could get outa her. Found out than once the clutch locks in 2nd gear going about 3 mph and gunning it.....SERIOUS SMOKE!!! My pipe ends underneath the cab and smoke was pouring out both rear fenders!!!
Did you notice less boost is needed to get going from a stop and to stay going at highway speeds? Also what speed are you going with that mileage on highway? I get decent mileage too on the highway if I keep it 65mph and under with 3.73s stock and 18inch wheels.
I have 1,500 miles on my truck and have had it since late October (build date in October as well). I am not afraid of doing the dpf delete but I want one I can bolt up and down if warranty service is needed (I'll take my chances that somehing will not heppen or they don't find out) or some other reason.
I definetly will not do anything before first oil change, maybe second (afraid of the infamous tick noise) but I would like to at least buy it in case of a limited edition problem later. I will not be running any mega tunes but am interest in mileage gains.

It's not necessarily the speed I'm going, more like the boost I'm running. As long as it's below 10 psi the mileage is in the 20's. I installed my tuner at about 5,000 miles, and have 29,000 now with no problems.
The boost levels are the same as before, but it spools up a lot faster now. If you're looking for a quick bolt-on kit you've got a lot of options. You can either get a Cat back DPF delete, or a complete strait pipe from the downpipe that removes the Cat.
Nice numbers but I have to say two things. First about the auto tranny. I went from a manual to a auto on the 2008 due to a bad back. Expected the decrease in mileage because of the spool up on the torque converter. On a manual you do not have this loss and is the main reason IMO that we see lower MPG's. The second thing is your lucky you live in Texas. I have consistently tried staying below 10 psi and just can't. Too many hills here in the Seattle area. I get 11 most of the time with increases on the highways but I don't drive there. Towing anything I just don't want to talk about. I will keep an eye on your posts So texas.
