Any strong feelings/brand loyalties out there for replacement wires, dist. caps and the like? The factory wires have those cute little numbers on them...
Someone on another list expressed a stong dislike for recent Bosch wires. They were favorites of mine for sportscar applications a whole bunch of years ago.
I just replaced all mine with MSD components. They have one of those test bench exhibits for the different brands of wires, of course theirs was the best. They do claim only 50Ohms resistance/foot and with their coil it produced a blue spark about 6 inches long. I have noticed the engine seems stronger power wise, cant tell about MPG. Gotta open the gap on the plugs.
A wire system, a hot coil, dist cap and rotor will run a little over $100 at checkers I think.
I paid around $30 for autolight wires in the past so the price was not that much different for what they claim you get.
It's hard to beat the Ford Motorsport brand of wires. They are under 50 bucks and are 9mm wires. Not only do they perform for the price but they also come with those little numbers you were wanting!
I have a complete msd system on my 340 Cuda and am very pleased with it. But for the price and warranty napa's prem. wires are some the best i've seen after years of being on plugs I hardly see the ends come off when you remove them. Wires from advance have terminal end come off after two days but I can't make decisions for you, just give you my opinion.
I regret everything I've ever bought from Advance, although it's tempting to go in there, and you think to yourself, "I only need (fill in the blank), their stuff can't be that bad," and then you buy something, even if it's just a $5 part, and it grossly dissapoints you, so for Motorsport's sake, don't shop there. It's the underacheiving, ******* little brother of AutoZone.

Advances lower priced stuff can be junk. They do however sell autolite and motorcraft plug wires. They also sell a premium line of caps and buttons that have brass terminals instead of cheasy aluminum ones that chalk up. They sell two lines of everything. One is an "economy" line for the tight wad that thinks that buying junk that needs replaced every year is getting him ahead cause he saves $1 over a good part. They also sell alot of OEM quality parts, factory parts for Ford, GM, Even Toyota. Don't buy something because of a guarantee, the junk is often lifetime because they know you will loose your receipt, but if you don't they can afford to replace it a few times before the high mileage junker this stuff usually goes on blows. The good stuff usually has 1 year or so but you ain't as likley to need the warranty with it. I sell autoparts and I get a nice discount where I work. I've also learned what chains sell what brands, which are good, and which are junk. I get a discount at work but still buy most of my stuff from the dealer. Can't go wrong with motorcraft parts. My customers can't believe I pass up a "deal" on parts like that. My truck is ten years old now and the only non ford parts on it that I know of are the brakes(Bendix), battery, and clutch(Zoom). A Ford service tech was the first owner, he used only factory replacement parts. I bought it and knowing what I know, keep my ford all ford. If I ever but a new one it won't get any non ford parts put on it until they quit servicing the particular part I need at the time.
