my 84 f150 351w is knocking it wont do it all the time. it kinda sounds like a diesel tractor when you shoot the ether to it. it usually does it from around 10-20 mph. it is kinda making me wonder anyone have any ideas
If you hear it when the engine is unloaded (not pressing or releasing on the accelerator as you are moving down the road) it could be rod or main bearings. Mine made a knocking noise as you describe but at higher speeds than yours. Upon overhaul all bearings were toast. Hope this isn't the case for you but an idea.
Try retarding your timing a little, maybe 2-3 degrees. You could also try a tank full of higher octane gas and see if that resolves your problem. Both would indicate a problem with initial timing and maybe with the rate the distributor advances as you accelerate...
i was listening to it today with my head out the window and it sounds more like it is coming from the back. i dont know if it is my exaust hitting my drive shaft or it is a u-jount making that noise i didnt think u-joints would make that kind of noise when you are acclerating.
