Axle got hot

When Doing my emergency brakes today we noticed when we pulled out my passenger side axle it looks as if it got a little hot, around where the gasket goes and all the bolts got in. You can tell it got hot because its got that blue looking color.

What may of caused this? We have since then repacked the bearings, replaced the leaky seals, and put in new rear end lube.

I thought the bearings swim in diff fluid.

I suspect the differential getting hot was an old issue because when I first bought the truck there was little fluid to come out of the differential so I am suspect no lubricants to the bearings which then made them get hot, but now with the differential full it shouldn't.

If your diff was run low on fluid, I would change the bearings and races in the hubs. Just because you filled the diff back up doesnt mean there wasnt damage done.
