Since i am going into college, i was thinking of buying an extended warranty for my drivetrain. is this a good way to go? i just dont want to be stuck with something broken that, as a college student, i can't afford to fix. have you guys delt with these warranties? are they work it?
The only one I would consider is the Ford ESP programs. Don't trust any of the 3rd party aftermarket warranties. The only thing is, I don't think you can get one on a MY 2000 truck.
I just noticed your other "Ultimate Truck" thread. If you are planning to mod like that, forget extended warranties. They won't cover your modded systems, which for your plans is just about everything.

I agree with bpounds. The Ford ESP is the only way to go. I actually bought a warranty other than a ford esp when I was in college and it was a waste of money they said they covered everything , but witht their stipulations covered nothing.
I have used the ESP warranty ever since and they're great.
That seams low. most of the warrentys I looked at ran 67 years 80k-100kmi and the price range was 1600-3000. I chose the Ford ESP, cost a little more then some, around 2500, but that way there is no question, if it breakes they own it. (I got the premium plan)
Yah if your going the extended warranty route go Fords ESP. These other outfits could go broke an leave you high an dry as far as coverage goes. Happens all the time. I myself am not to keen on extended warranties period. Why not put that money somewhere if you need it for just such an emergency. One thing I hate about extended warranties is if you never need it the money is gone for good. If you do need it do you ever get your money back totally. Extended warranties are money makers for whoever sells them for sure. But they will sure try hard to sell you one. I just say no. No matter what they say. I have bought about 7 Ford trucks over the years an if i had bought the extended warranty for all those trucks I could have almost paid for another vehicle. Hey this is just my opinion FWIW. For me it would have been money totally wasted.
A guy that I worked for a long time ago told me to never buy the extended warranty instead put the money that it would cost into a cd or some other interest bearing account and don't use it for anything but major repairs on the vehicle. In the end you'll come out ahead and can use it for a down payment on your next vehicle and start a new cd for the next one.
when i bought my truck i bought a warranty from Fidelty Warranty in S Florida. I guess they are a big warranty service. Well I finally had to take my truck to Ford to have work done and sure enough this warranty paid for the work. I had a bad axle, hub, and a few other tihngs. The reduced bill was $1500 plus my rental car. They took care of it all and I paid a $100 deductable.
Also note that my truck is lifted, and a few other things. I thought they would have screwed me for improper use or something.
hmmm..... that's kinda what i thought. i figured since i'll probably be lifting it and stuff, that they would try to screw me over on an extended warranty. i guess i should do some more research
I paid about 600 dollars for the EW on my 03-250. It's a piece of garbage company that I've never heard of (I work for a dealership) but figured what the hell. So far it's paid for itself with the few repairs I've had. I just had a u-joint replaced and it cost me 50 dollars. Total bill was $319. Thats just the start so far so I'm glad I got what I did.
Sometimes you come out ahead, sometimes you don't. It's a shot in the dark.
