Exclamation problems after drain plug "fell out while driving"

03' 6.0 4x4
Jiffy Lube in their greatness changed my oil one day when i was in a rush for work. and they did not tighten the drain plug up completely. unfortunately leaving me onside of the road int he middle of the night after truck shut off from no oil pressure.... rightfully so. all 16 qts drained out on the side of the highway. next morning i went out and filled her back up and it wouldnt start, my buddy told me to disconnect battery for 6 minutes to reset computer and did that and it finally started.
Now 2 separate problems.
Biggest problem: The engine now will "cut-off" almost as though it stops spraying fuel for a moment. i let off the gas for 2 seconds and it will reset itself to get back in gear, until i get on the accelerator heavy again. it happens at random times, it is not related to speed nor RPM. it can happen at 1500 RPM at 20 MPH or at 80 MPH at 3500 RPM.
In the morning no matter how i long i let it idle after start up, it will guaranteed cut off.
when i say cut off, only rarely will the engine actually shut off. it will jstu stop spraying fuel until i let off the accelerator and let it reset itself and kick back into grabbint he gear. then i can give it gas and it will happen again. all this happens within 20 minutes. after everything is warmed up it will happen at random. have you ever felt a rev limiter or a cut off stopping you form going over a certain speed and it will "shut-off", it acts like that.
I asked my mechanic friend to make a coorelation between fuel usage and the oil draining out of the pan.
So we replaced the Oil pressure sending unit(a sensor that screw intot the top of the block) this weekend and it did nothing. Now he is suggesting maybe a crankshaft position sensor? the oil drained completely out... what could be causing the engine to cut out middrive? the truck had its fuel injector recall done before i bought it.

Another less important problem as of now:
My friend has a scanner and after an hour of troubleshooting we get the transmission going into "failsafe mode" with the O/D light blinking on and off.In that mode i believe the tranny only uses 1,3,and 5th gear. it is also hard to guess when this will happen. but middrive it will switch into and out of this mode at random. He suggests replacing the solenoids in the valve body of tranny.

Ibrought it to ford dealer for testing, and they simply said to me they dont know, they want replace the whole tranny, but i know that is jsut someone being lazy after lunchbreak and didnt want to keep troubleshooting.

I drive for a living and i need my baby to work correctly, can anyone who reads this offer advice!

If I were you, I would have had the Jiffy Lube folks out on the side of the road to see the truck with no oil in it, and they would have had to have it towed to Ford and inspected for engine damage on their dime. Have you contacted them at all? If not, you need to get on it. They should be fixing this problem.

i understand that, but unfortunately i dont have the reciept, and they dont have the record, i know i have to eat it form this point forward. but iw ould like to focus on what i need to start replacing, i found another thread saying it could be a harness, but does not say which one, or if it helped, does this help point in a better direction?

go to a different dealer if they say they don't know, properly trained techs don't just hook up a computer to diagnose all problems, sometimes they need to be able to actually manually trouble shoot a vehicles problem, sounds like you found a lazy dealer tech

Well since the 6.0 uses the HEUI system for injectors, when you lost all of your oil you probably destroyed some of your injectors. Just a thought.........

If they want to replace the entire tranny, I'd let em hahaha. Brandnew tranny for free? Sounds good to me

So gusmarine are you saying you never had any of these problems until the truck was ran out of oil? If so then the injectors are fired by oil pressure and that oil pressure is controlled by an ipr which is a injector pressure regulator and the icp sensor which is the injector pressure sensor. The sensor is checking for the proper pressure and is sending a signal to the ficm and then the ficm sends a signal to the ipr to regulate that pressure.
The dealership has the software in their computers to monitor this process as it takes place and should be able to see a problem if one occurs. Like rollerstud98 posted you need to take it to a dealer who knows how to check these things and other areas that could contribute to this problem or else your just spitting in the wind.

AFAIK running out of fuel is harder on the injectors than running out of oil.

yes everyhting started happening when the truck ran out of oil. and they wanted to charge me around 3300 for a new tranny out of my pocket! i cant win wiht his, but im diehard ford fan and i wont give up on it. this is jsut something that is mentally exhausting me right now, but i will def look into this IPR, i can call to order one right now. that is one step closer in my troubleshooting, i know its related to the oil pressure system somehow, i jstu hope it isnt the injectors, cuz would that count on my waranty, i am at 97,000 miles and i dont have alot of time to get it straigted out.

You my friend need a 6.0 liter Doctor.I think you have a number of different problems that each on their own may not be too hard to figure out but the sum of them all is more than the run of the mill non 6.0 tech to handle. This is MHO. Good luck getting sorted.

I wouldn't let Jiffy Lube work on my rusty old lawn mower. My daughter used them once several years back after I had told her over & over again. At any rate after the plug fell out & the engine seized it cost a little over $4k at the Ford dealer. Lawsuit is still pending...............
