Hey ya'll. My friend was telling me about turning a 302 into a 347 stroker. What all would be neccesary to accomplish this, and how much of a HP/torque gain would there be?
Thanks a bunch.
I know you don't want to hear this but a 347 is more of a drag strip stroker. Guys who use these usually run in classes where they must use a block that was originally available in thier car. They are also usually for strip only machines because the 347's tend to start using lots of oil after just a few miles. The 331 option sounds better, but do you really want to spend thousands on a special crank, rods, and pistons for 29 cubic inches? When Ford wanted more cubic inches out of the 302 platform they came up with the 351 windsor. I am willing to bet that a 351 will beat a similar 347. Not because it is 4 cubic inches bigger, but because it has better geometry for the longer stroke. The rod angles in some of theese strokers has to be horrible, its hard on the rod and increases the loads on the bearings. You can find a windsor just about anywhere is you look long enough and be alot better off in most cases. Now if your still bent to have one look at some of the 5.0 mustang magazines they usually have ads for several outfits building stroker 5.0's.
Yup I'd just swap in a 351,much more reliable. If you want to stroke the 351 the 393 is an easy one.Stroker crank, stock rods and 302 pistons bored .030 over.
Huh. Lots of guys are stroking their Mustangs with good results. Try this question over at [link:www.corral.net/forums/|corral.net] in the Windsor forum. They love to flog that question endlessly.
For my 2 cents worth, I say stroking an 302 HO SEFI Mustang engine sounds like a good way of going.
