i have an 84 f-250 with a 351w, the little sticker says that i need to disconnect a single wire/black connector to check timing. where is this, and what does it go to?
Single wire? Carbed or EFI? On the EFI engines, there's the SPOUT conector, which you have to disconnect when the engine's turned off to set base timing. If you follow the wires from the TFI connector back along the intake, you'll feel a little connector sticking out of the wire bundle. You just pull the "pill" out of the connector, and you're set to check the timing.
The only thing I can think of on a carbed engine would be the vacuum spark advance line, which you disconnect and plug to check the timing. It's also a good time to see if you're spark advance is functioning. But it's not a wire, it's vacuum line.
Hope that helps,
Ben
its carb and theres no vac line to the distributor. only the wires to the module. the sticker on the truck says to disconnect a single wire with a black connector.
