has anybody added a bigger trans fluid pan, what are the issues with doing it. I have excursion that has 63thousand miles. I have always changed the fluid. I was also wanting to switch to Royal Purple.

My Ex came with a BTS trans, PML trans pan and an external filter. I went to BTS to get it serviced and that pan was a PIA to remove! I put a stock pan on and removed the external filter. I use Schaeffers ATF since BTS recommends it.
Got a Mag hytech on mine fit is "close" but do-able and adds quarts its finned and is drilled and tapped for a tranny gage. PML also makes a good one and is cheaper. I like the O-ring seal on the mag and no leaks so far. I too am using RP and no issues with the tranny.
I put the PML pan on and have been using Royal Purple synthetic ATF in my torqueshift for about 3,000 miles. X has 63,000 on the clock. The only difference I notice with the RP over the SP is when cold the shifts are firm. During normal operation the RP shifts are a little firmer then SP shifts but the firmness is minimal over the SP. No isuues with the RP ATF.
a firmer shift is good because more fluid is getting through ur lines. Hence the firmer shift. More fluid through ur lines means ur trans stays cooler. Since it stays cooler, it last longer.
BTW DSMMH, do you use RP syn in ur eng and rear end? I love the product and us it in my rear end and eng and soon to be trans (next change). I also use it in my lawncare equip (I run comm units) Great stuff.
BTS doesn't even recommend them. He does recommend a 6.0 trans cooler. Considering his warranty of "Last trans you pay for" and "I dare you to break it", you would think if it helps, he'd be recommending them since it will be less warranty ON YOUR DIME should it really help.

i eat hybirds........I use RP in everything. I use RACING 51 in my Scarab and Max-Gear 75W-90 gear oil in the outdrive. I have RACING 21 in my ZO6 with SynchroMax in the tranny and Max-Gear in the rear. In the X I use 20W-50 in the motor, SynchroMax in the transfer case, Max-Gear in the rears and ATF in the tranny. I use Purple Ice in all cooling systems and I use there 2-cycle oil in my chain saws, jet ski and Evinrude E-tech outboard.
Three farm tractors have RP products in them.
I have 4 trailers (1 dump, 2 boat and 1 jet ski) with oil wheel bearings filled with Max-Gear oil.
Ever since I saw their bearing load test demo in 1995 I have used their products.
So, yes I do like there products. They are a little pricey but IMHO well worth it! I strongly believe that is the reason I do not have the turbo and injector problems a lot of the other guys are having because I use RP lubricants. And I'm sure some of them will tell me that I'm smokin some good s*** but 63,000 on the X and has never been to a dealer for anything (knock on wood) and runs really strong.
