Need Details on Pulling Motor

Ok guys......... Have a 96 EddieBauer Bronco with 302 automatic.

Last summer the oil pan had a rust hole in it and since I have other vehicles, this one sat in the driveway until I had a chance to work on it. That time came today.....

I tried the Method with out removing the motor, Undo motor & trans mounts, LIfted by the crank.... problem is..... I live in Maryland.(When it snows 1 inch, they put 2 inches of salt on the roads!!!) The small 10MM bolts that hold the pan on were disinigrating as I tried to remove them. Some came out, some the heads were just crumbling!!! Soooooooo I put back together thinking I could Take it to a welder to put a patch on it. (figured that would last a few years.....)

When I started it up and took it for a ride (First ride in at least 9months)... The back to plugs blew out. Just the ceramic part. the threads are still in the hole.

Looks Like I am pulling the motor.

Any detailed instructions would help.

Disconnect from tranny?? Transfer CAse?? will it still lift out with this stuff attached?? I have worked on alot of trucks, But I have never removed the entire engine. Any input would help.

Thanks

Get a cherry picker and a motor balance. Unbolt the t-case. Pull the inspection plate off of the bottom of the transmission, remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts, and the starter. Unbolt the transmission. Unbolt the exhaust manifolds. Drain the coolant and remove the radiator. There is a pull ring on the engine. On one front and the opposing back corner, attached to the heads. Attach the enginer balancer to that, start lifting with the cherry picker. Unbolt the motor mounts. Lift up and pull forward on the engine to make sure the transmission is loose. Lift it out.

Good luck,

Bob K.

X2 with NWBronco. The only thing I would add is to remove the upper intake before pulling motor. You can get chain down lower and clear hood better. Just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

Just did it to my 91 ranger. I also have a 96 bronco and forsee a engine pull in the near future for it also.

For every part you take off the engine to prep for the pull, put the nuts and bolts for that part in its own plastic sandwich bag and label it and keep it with that part.

Don't disconnect your A/C hoses if your equipped with A/C, just disconnect the compessor from the engine and put off to the side of the engine compartment where the unit and the hoses won't get in the way.

Fuel lines may need a special tool. My rangers came off with a a scissor like tool you get any parts store. I believe the 96 Bronco is the same.

Taking the upper intake made things easier for me.

Remove hood.

Get a haynes or chiltons if not already in possession of one. It will walk you through it.
