on my white fx4 i have factory black fender flares. i was going to have them painted but was wondering if i could just unscrew them? i imagine it would be finished white underneath right? and would look like a white lariat? if so, would i have to worry about the screw holes rusting out?
ok. i removed them and it looks so much better. they were glued on too. after unscrewing them they pelled off eaisly. i then removed the glue with my thumb and then acetone. came out pisser.
Has anyone tried removing thes flares and repainting them and then reinstalling? I'd like to paint mine gloss black but wasn't sure if anyone had tried to reinstall as to what the used to replace the glue.
i also have a 08 fx4 and the plastic flares saved the fender from a dent.
i was leaving work one day and a co worker ( parked next to me) was getting
into his car when a strong gust of wind forced his door open hard, hit the right
front molding and gouged it. im sure without the plastic molding the fender would
have been dented.

I bought those flares from russ2387 and they now live on my truck. I had them repainted silver to match the lower color on my '08. They were held on with scrivets and 3M double sided tape like used for emblems. IIRC, it was about 3/4" wide and had a red peel off backing. The body shop had it on hand, but someone here said you could buy it at Lowes.

Ok, sounds good. I was afarid the double sided tape would leave a gap between the sheet metal and the edge of the flare. Thanks for the help.
