So... I'm installing my procomp lift on monday... Is there any tips you guys can share ??? I've heard getting the front spring bolts out is a PITA. Has anyone taking the front spring out that has first hand knowledge of this issue ???

Nope, not too hard with air tools.

You need big enough jack stands to support the frame up high enough to lower the axle and install the new springs.

You need a pitman arm puller big enough for the pitman arm and a big enough socket, 30mm socket for the trac bar. Trac bar bolts need to be torqued to 369 ft/lbs.
A helper is nice to have.

Use loctite on the pitman arm nut.

That's the main stuff that comes to mind. Pretty straight forward install.

The last time that i installed a lift the kit came with new u-bolts. I just fired up the torch and cut off the old u-joints.

My friend up the road restores and builds hot rods and has a body shop.. He's got all the tools that a guy could think of... sometimes 2 and 3 of each.. lol I just called him and he's pretty sure he has a pitman arm puller !!

I'll be doing the install there

Just a FYI, lots of pitman arm pullers don't fit the SD pitman arm.....but on most of them you can use a die grinder to open it up a little bit to fit over it.

This is the pitman arm puller I ordered from my local auto parts store.

On a related note, does the front bumper have to come off to install the springs or can it be done without?

Good luck with the install.

You can do it with the bumper on.
But, it's easier and gives you more space with the bumper off. Only takes a few minutes to remove the front bumper on the SDs anyway.

Thanks again DC. I'm all about doing things the easy way, so the bumper will come off.

I tried giving you reps for all the help but am told I need to spread them around a little first.

Glad to help.

Just 6 bolts hold the bumper on your 2001. 2 by each tow hook and one in each wheel well. Remove them, slide it out a little bit to disconnect fogs, block heater, etc.. and then remove. If you have someone to hold it in the middle while you do this it makes it easier.

Taking off my front bumper is a bit of a chore.. All my lights on there and wiring and front receiver etc.... I'm going to try and attempt it with it on first... If I HAVE to... I'll take it off... I'll be starting tomorrow am... YeeeeHawwww ! Gave myself a hernia a couple of weeks ago and I'm in quite a lot of pain right now.. So it might take a little longer than normal !! Hopefully won't be to hard of a job !

I think you guys pretty much got it covered.

The hardest part of my lift install was the pitman arm, PITA. If all else fails, aid your puller with a torch and a BFH.

Also, my rear shocks bottom mount bolts were rusted into the metal sleeve of the shock bushing, but thats nothing a grinder cant fix

It will be fine. Our suspension is far simpler than an IFS. Now... If you're willing to use bushwacker's cut out flares, you will be able to mount 40" tires on that beast... That's HOT
