well i got the filter installed, the old box came out easy, less than 5 mins. i used a 3 inch 45* sewer pipe elbow with the flared ends, measured 4 inch outside diameter, i didn't have time to run allover town looking for an elbow. i grabbed my dremel with a flapper wheel attachment and smoothed the ridge on the inside similar to how you would gasket match a head/manifold so hopefully it wont cause any turbulence. but its only temporary till i find an 4 inch without the flared ends or some place that has the 4 inch exhaust elbow. like i said i don't have time to run all over town right now and this is what they had at the mac's hardware up the street from the auto parts store.
i can hear the turbo spool a little better and seems to spool a little faster with the cat removed. if i gain .5 mpg it will all pay for itself in the next 2 months seems how next month i have over 4000 miles of towing to do.
do you guys think im fine with the 3 inch 45 it has the built in couplings so the outside diameter on the ends is 4 inch so it clamps in nice but the center of the bend is 3 inch inside diameter, i dremeled down the ridge on the end of the coupling section and faded into the center to avoid turbulence. i don't want to add an restriction point. i don't have time at this moment to search for anything better, if you guys all think im fine with the 3 inch 45 ill just leave it in there permently. i suppose the crack case ventaliation peice in the air intake is probably just as restrictive as my 3 inch elbow. although i suppose even though i smoothed the ridges on the elbow it could still cause some turbulence going from 4 inch to 3 inch to 4 inch to three inch (pvc section) and then into the turbo
Ya, for the most part, you cant create much more turbulence than that stock accordian that's under the hood. Best way to have good, laminar flow would be replacing that with pipe, and having smooth bends. But honestly, For the Extra $40 you might spend on that, you'd only pick up a few CFM. I'd leave it just like you have it.
well now that i got my belt/tensioner problem fixed i noticed the turbo sings a beautiful song with the 6637 and cat delete i seem to have picked up about 2 mpg been threw a 2 1/4 tank in the last few days (lots of driving and lots of towing)
