Installing Split Bench Seat

Yesterday I picked up a split bench seat from a 77 super cab (believe it was the back seats) for dirt cheap with the hopes of getting it into my 78 F100 as front seats.
How do I go about doing this? Will it just bolt in or be more of a task because these were originally back seats?

Wink

If you got a split back bench seat from a SuperCab then you most likely got the front seat.
It should just bolt right in place of your original seat (you may have to swap your tracks to the s/c seat)
There is really no way you would want to put the puney rear seat from a supercab in the front of your truck.

Yeah it must be a front then. The tracks on the new seat are different, one bolt front one bolt back. My current seat has one bolt front and 2 bolts back. New seat also has this curved part, old ones are straight. Looks like i'll have to swap tracks.

Use the tracks from your old seat on the outsides of the new seat. They should bolt right on. You will then only have to drill and mount the center track from the split bench to the floor if it has one.

Nope, doesn't have a center track.
Now it does have this long skinny metal piece. The guy said it should clip right on (I believe its needed to allow the driver side to fold down) but I can't figure it out... Anyone know what this piece is?

Without a picture it's hard to tell. Is it for the seat alone or to attach to the truck?

Yeah i'll get some pictures tommorow. I believe its for the seat alone. It's the about the length of the seat, very very thin piece of metal. Looks similiar the the long piece that causes the seat to slide forwards and back.

I e-mailed the guy again asking for specifics on where this piece goes. I've never replaced a seat so i'm a bit clueless... Wish me luck!

I wish you all the luck in the world. Most seats are a direct fit but there are a few caveats. Check the tips and tricks forum to find out if you have a difficult situation.

I didn't think the split benches had separate tracks for sliding. The bottom should have the same type of subframe so you can bolt your tracks right on. If not, it should be a fairly simple modification.

Sorry, i'll word it better, the bottom is the same. Theres no seperate tracks.

heres a picture of the seat I got
ford truck front bench seat
It's out of a 77 F250 extended cab. Tracks are definatly different, so i'll have to switch tracks but that should be it.

The long metal piece that is currently attached to the underside is the piece that connects the lever thing (that slides the seat) from one side to the other so both sides of the seat slide together. Sorta make sense? The long metal piece that ISN'T attached looks very similiar to that piece.

It sounds like a connecting rod to allow one or the other seat to slide independently. Perhaps autozone has a pic. Otherwise, you may find a location to attach the piece to after the sun comes up.

Yup, i'll definatly try it before a start taking any tracks off. The main difference between the 2 is my current tracks are straight, the ones in the 77 bend about 45 degrees down
