I have a 94 f-350 5.8 e4od that been running like crap.I checked the codes and I got a 99,81,and 22.
22 map sensor,should i replace it?
81 air diverter circuit failure.whats this?
99 electronic pressure control circuit failure.whats this?
thanks
MAP sensor will make it run for crap to not at all if it is bad. I'd replace it. I just did one on the Lincoln. Popped a code and sure enough it solved the problem. Seems to me it threw a few other codes due to the MAP being bad, but replacing the MAP all went back to normal.
The codes will usually go from lowest to highest too, so you might want to re-check, looking for three digits. Do you notice any shifting issues with the transmission? You can also test the MAP sensor to see if it is functioning properly before buying a new one if you feel confident that's what the codes are pointing to.
Electronic pressure control circuit sounded transmission related, that's all. You can test the MAP sensor with a multimeter if it can measure frequency or duty cycle. I don't know the exact numbers -- you'll have to check a repair manual for the readings during operation -- but you will need to measure between the MAP signal wire and the signal return (Ford's term for its sensor ground circuit). Simply measuring voltage across those two wires will give you a steady 2.5V no matter what the output signal is since it is just the frequency that the sensor switches between low and high volt references.
