I am getting ready to replace the shocks on my '00 Ex with 2wd and air suspension. Can anybody make me a recommendation on a shock that can improve my handling? I am thinking of the Gabriel Max Control monotube shock. Any thoughts?
I went to Sears and put some Monroe shocks and the ride was completely different. (In a good way). I have a 2WD as well and the Monroe shocks make the ride at highway speed a lot more pleasant than the OEM shocks. They were pretty inexpensive too. I believe I paid just $40 per shock.
SB and ATL, thank you for the replies. This is going to make for a difficult decision. These shocks are definately in two extremes price wise. I will say that I like to push my 2wd a little harder in the corners than most people. I also like to get best bang for the buck. Any other advise out there would be much appreciated. I have over 100K on the Ex and it does seem to wallow around.
I've put Edlebrock IAS shocks on three vehicles (Explorer, Pathfinder, Wrangler) and been really happy. Nice stiffness and roll reduction in corners, but still pretty supple over bumps. They were in the Bilstein price range - around $79 each.
I got the Monroe Sensa Tracks, I did not really notice a difference over OEMs. I replaced at 75k. I am not at 106k and I am thinking they are ready for a replacement. I have heard nothing but good things about the Bilsteins. I was too poor to spring for them at the time, and the Monroe's came with free installation.
If you have the four corner air suspnesion you will need special shocks. If you do not, the Edelbrock IAS performers have been on my 2002 Expy for a few thousand miles and I am very happy with their ride and handling.

Surely use monotube only. Bilsteins would be the best choice, or a good KYB. Check out shockwarehouse.com they carry both. Goog luck.
At shockwarehouse they are selling all four Bilstein shocks for a 2000 Expedition XLT 4x4 for $262 free shipping, I think im going to order them sounds like a great price.

Sure wish the '03 4wd Bilsteins were $262 for four shocks, rather than the $410 as listed. I assume that price is correct?
