Hey Guys, Okay Okay I'm a novice so can someone tell me step by step the proper proceedure for installing the #6637 Filter (FleetFilter.com)? And do I need to have a cover on it, what are the benefits?
Here is a link to one of the threads on the 6637. If you just search for 6637 you will come up with a bunch of threads on it. On some of them people have put instructions on how they did it.
If you have a 99.5 or newer the stock tube will slide right over the neck and the stock clamp will work. You may have to heat the tube up with a hair dryer for the first time but from then on they change fairly easily. Mine has been like that for 2 years now and lots of miles without a hint of coming loose.
Some of us, though, due to some type of wierd layout configuration of things under the hood, have fought problems with the filter coming loose even with the exhaust tubing. I finally purchased a 45° piece of stainless exhaust so I can eliminate the sideways torque that keeps me checking mine regularly to make sure it hasn't slipped off again.
Glad to have you as a member of the best group around. Looks like you have this one covered. I'm one of the lucky ones and didn't need any pipe. That being said, I do rest easier knowing that I have one of Pete's (F250_) custom covers on my 6637, just in case it does slip off, I will still have somthing to keep the big stuff out. Plus they are just plain purdy.
Thanks for the info. I have an 02 Excursion so we'll see how it goes. So far everyone on this site has been awesome and has really helped me narrow down my choice of upgrades. I'm new to diesel, but not not new to spending my money on stuff for my truck.
