can you download codes without an aftermarket device
flashing dash lights etc.?
my check engine soon light is on
I passed someone at speed and it came on
I don't have a code reader
Nope. You need a code reader. The junky autozone ones will not read our codes. Check e-bay for a vin locked superchips or something, or get AutoEnginuity from ITP Diesel, L.L.C.
Welcome to FTE premo1. The only way I know of to pull the codes without paying for a scanner is to include your location in your online profile. There's a chance a fellow member may have a scanner and live nearby.
Other than that you spend $50 - $90 to have a mechanic scan it for you or drop the $350 with Dennis at ITP Diesel and buy one of your own.

If your light went out after going back to normal driving and you have a chip or programmer/tuner.. the light coming on is normal.. In this case it is caused by your high pressure oil injector pump not keeping up with your demand for speed...
Do you have a set of gauges? The DP tuner by design makes certain items run "out of range" for the trucks computer. If it didn't do this, you'd still have a stock truck. There's also a chance that you had an overboost (according to the PCM) because of the tuner.
If the light came on when you got on it, then went away later, but comes back if you really lean on the go pedal then it may just be a turbo overboost. There are things you can do for this. Do you have a way to monitor boost pressure?
I have a boost guage and pyrometer from my Banks stuff, I was really in it when I was passing, I mean really in it, I was not looking at the guages at that moment I could have overboosted, but the light came on and is still on, when I turn the key on the light comes on goes out then comes on and stays on

My ses comes when I lean into the throttle pulling a load, but I am not over boosting.. i believe it the HPOP not keeping up.. not getting over 19 lbs of boost.. running a DiabloSport programmer at 60 hp...
You'll get the hang of it soon. SES = Service Engine Soon aka CEL = Check Engine Light. It's the same light you're talking about.
HPOP = High Pressure Oil Pump. This pump provides high pressure oil to fire your fuel injectors. With the right tunes and injectors it's possible that your HPOP cannot provide enough pressure to properly fuel your injectors. When you see someone refer to "big oil" they're talking about an after market HPOP that can handle an increased load.
Clint, Do you know anyone with an AE that can do some data logging for you?

No, don't know of anybody with a AE but, I still believe it the HPOP not keeping up..I get the following fault code message from my Diablo Sport programmer.. "P1211, This code is normal for a performance tuned vehicle, injector control pressure higher/lower than desired.."

Can you feel / tell anyhting that's wrong? The whole purpose of a chip / tuner is to make things run "above desired level"
