75W-140 SYNTHETIC gear lube. Depending on what you go with you may also need some friction modifier also. Ford has that. A 4 oz bottle is 4-5 bucks.
I used mobil one, and so far haven't had to add any modifier.

If you use Motorcraft gear oil, then YES...you will need the friction modifier...only IF you have a Limited Slip diff. If you have an open diff, then NO friction modifier is needed.

If you go with Royal Purple...this gear oil does not require any other additives for a Limited Slip diff...or open diff. Just add the gear oil...and you are covered either way.

I purchase my Royal Purple products on eBay usually...because cost is less. However they carry it now at NAPA, Pep Boys, etc.

Hope this helps...Good luck...

Summit Racing was the cheapest I found. Even with the shipping, it was cheaper than any place in town

you can use Amsoil Synthetic gear lube they have several viscosity gear lubes. If you go to lubedealer.com/tomsoilandfilters/ you can click on the product application button and it will suggest what viscosity to use for your vehicle, then click on the online store button and order what you need and it will be shipped to your home.

You don't have to take the center section out and soak the clutch packs. The only time you would soak the clutch packs is when you are building up an new center section with new clutch packs. So don't listen to what that person told you.

1. Take your diff cover off and drain fluid.

2. Clean all old gasket material from the cover and axle. Be careful to keep gears free of contamination

3. Apply new RTV silicone to cover and put cover on. Don't use too much RTV as it can make a silicone worm that can come off in your diff and do damage.

4. Let the RTV set for awhile then fill your diff with the proper 75w140 synthetic oil.

5. If using Royal Purple or Amsoil you may not need the friction modifier as this oil contains modifier already.

6. If you use an oil that requires adding the modifier, add half the required dose and take the truck for a ride. Do some figure eights in a parking lot and see if the axle chatters. If the axle chatters add a little more modifier and do figure eights. Repeat process until axle no longer chatters. You don't want to add more modifier than needed because it can reduce the effectiveness of the LSD.
