I was thinking?

Sometimes thats a bad thing
but anyways I was just sitting here thinking about this after reading some of the posts on here,
and I have came to the conclusion that as much as I hate the price of gas right now and dont see it getting any better anytime soon?
I am kinda glad that it is what it is?
the reason for this off the wall thought is because people are starting to sell off these old 73-79 trucks and parts are getting to be cheap to have and it is getting easier to own one of these beasts, not fuel it, but own it!
I dont know? this may be total jiberish and just my mind going into meltdown mode because it is raining out and I cant go out and work on my baby?
I am just so damn glad to have my trucks I guess?
well it was just a random thought I figured I would share??? See Ya!! ...Rick (Salt-Man)

It is easier to own our trucks for several reason.

1. Like you said Parts are cheaper.
2.Prices are coming down.
3.They are paid for. (no extra insurance, truck payment)
4.they are easy to work on.

So if you figure in a new car payment average is $500.00 a month, then all the extra insurance like Collision,Comprehensive, fire, theft, towing, and on top of that paying for gas at $3.20 plus depending where you live.

That is the reason I sold my 99 4x4/CC/7.3/Lariat is I bought my 77, and along with my 66 and 63 it didn't get driven because I ENJOY driving my 77 and 66.

They could find enough oil to last us for a million years and the price would still stay the same.
they are not about to take a cut in pay when they already know that we will pay it no matter what it is.
one of these days I want to make my own shine to run on
it can be done and I have the plans for a still already
but like everything, it takes money to save money
there is a lot to change in the fuel system, etc, to even be able run the stuff
but it can be done!

you are right about supply and demand. I understand
my only point is 50 cents less a gallon is not going to make or break us.
now if they would drop it down to $2 a gallon that would be cool but that will never happen
and the replenishable fuel is already a reality
you can distill just about anything, fruit, grass clippings, wood
if it is biodegradible it more and likely can be distilled into a alcohol based fuel
but that alcohol is harsh on our excisting fuel systems and the materials they are made out of
it is very feasible to make our own fuel right at home
and can be done if you put the time and money into it and follow all the proper guidelines involved in doing so and get the propoer permits required
like I said " it takes money to save money "
one of these days I will do it!
but right now is not the time for me to endevor into this

hopefully one of these days I can make it a reality

Make sure you get a federal permit to make it.

What are the compromises that gasoline run internal combustion engines require to run alcohol based fuels?

it is my understanding that a good high alcohol proof rating
= a good octane level?
but its been a while since I read up on this?
it will burn cleaner, I'll have to start looking into this again and gather more info before I go answering questions?
I would think that you would have to add some addatives to a home brew to remove water and keep from drying out the cylinders?
such as K-100 and maybe some Marvel Mystery Oil??
that is just some of my own personal thoughts though

alcohol fuels are very potent as far as octane rating. Look at drag racing to see that. The problem is the corrosive properties of alcohol on all the engine components. Hence the reason drag racing engines get torn down after every run. Engines run cooler on it. Most of your demo derby cars are running it to keep the engine from melting into Modern Art once the radiator has been destroyed.
