When I removed the factory carb there was a hose running from just behind the thermostat to the spacer under the carb. What is that for and is it required? The carter i just picked up has the spacer already and that conection is there but not sure what it is for. Is this required on the newer aftermarket stuff?
Those water spacers are there to cool the carb as well, 195 degree coolant is much cooler then the 350 degree intake manifold temps, though if keeping the carb cool is your primary concern a phelonic spacer would be a better option.
If it's a single hose connection, it may be part of the PVC system, which should be connected. Normally it's in back of the carb. The Cooler/heating block (2 connections) connects to the heater hose port ( behind thermostat) to carb then to heater.
that's how it goes. I looked at my new spacer and it doesn't have the hose conections. I'm going to go with out it and see how it works. worst case i have to get a new spacer.
Not sure of the date but when ford stopped using the exh manifold heat riser with countweight & spring is when ford started using the carb base heater. A few time on friend trucks had to bypass the carb beae heater inthe summer time due to carb boiling gas and flooding. ...my 2cents
