I just had the tires rotated and the tire guy says that I need the left lower ball joint replaced, Now granted the tire does wobble, but only after 15,000 miles????
The shop gave me an estimate for @ $250.00 total. Does that sound fair price or am I getting taken? Parts are $69.00 and labor is @ $144.00 + tax.
If you did it yourself, you could do it for about $30.00 plus a tool rental which is often free at the AP you buy the parts from. Since this is prolly your first time and it is a pain, it might be worth having it done rather than spending a day swearing at it.

Oh I swear at it more than I'll admit to. Took a trip last Friday to take care of personal business, filled both tanks to see what it would get fuel mileage wise,,,,SUCKS!!!!! It's a 300 I-6 w/ Auto. and it got a LOUSY,,, REPEAT,,, LOUSY MPG ! @ 6.5MPG! BUT!!!!! With it having 266,000 miles on it,,,It's wore out. It just a basic work truck.
It's my sense of humor talking there.
Some of us guys figure a way to laugh at life and make it bearable.

I just did my ball joints last weekend. I have a '90 f150 XLT Lariat - l6 - E4OD - 176,000 miles. I did all 4 of them myself. The total cost to me was about $50.00 (Considering I had my own jack and jackstands). However i will warn you because the ball joints are pressed in using a c-clamp like tool you should have a pipe to put on the end of your wrench and if you are doing it by just yourself (1 person), then you will need a solid vice that can take A LOT of tourque, because you will be cranking so hard. Also if there is a lot of rust on the underside of the front end you should probably be pretty strong to be able to break the rust on the bolts(WD40, etc). I am mainly talking about the bolt and nut that clamp down on the camber sleeve. Let's see you will need the balljoint set from advance auto and the fork tool set. This cost me a deposit of $180 and when I returned them I got it all back. The shop wanted to charge me about $800 and that was with a price break(milwaukee, WI). So I am glad to be able to do it myself for $50.
I have found very very cheap namebrand parts on autopartsgiant.com if you spend over $50 the shipping is free! If the shipping is free, sometimes it is cheaper than ebay, and like i said they have name brand stuff.
