I see you guys are talking about Herculiner. I can say that I have seen it on more than a few trucks and it looks ok when new, but after some time it looks terrible all chaulky and it doesn't hold up all that well.

Put an AC Delete pulley on to replace my dead compressor, removed the accumulator and all the lines and such even removed the evaporaoter (Think that's what it's called) from in front of the rad. Lost about 30lbs total off the truck.

I hate it when people have a dead AC system, just cut the belt and call it good......If you are not gonna fix it, remove it! completely!....Why carry around non functional garbage?....good work!

Ok. I know, I know. This isn't Ford related. But talking to my Toyota forum people is like talking to a bunch of pigeons. They just don't understand things unless you're talking about shocks or lift kits. Anyway, just wanted to say that I replaced the starter solenoid contacts and plunger in my wife's 99 4Runner. I just needed to tell somebody that would actually appreciate and understand what a B**** it is to pull a 5# starter out of a cramped Japanese engine compartment. Just saying. Cost me 17 bucks and 3 hours of my afternoon. That's all.

I hate cramped Japanese engines. I'm glad that you got that fixed.

As for mine, I went out and tested the Diesel for about 100 miles. It ran fine, but it did seem to hesitate at starting from a dead stop.
Got the 81 all hooked up to the plow and setting out. (we're expecting 3 inches).

I do not agree with this, because later on he or the next owner may want to fix it and it will be a huge pain to do so.

Alex a lot of the folks on enthusiast forums are indeed enthusiasts not mechanics. Nice people for the most part but a great many of them don't have a clue beyond driveway maintenance and installing accessories. Many don't want to learn more.

Thats true, I guess AC is a little more important here. Another thing though is that having a funtioning AC makes the defrost work alot better for defogging the windows wihen its humid.

Sorry for the late reply...

I got it at PepBoys. It is a reman unit. I think it has a 12month warranty.

I was having death wobble issues BAD. We lifted the truck up and there was about 4 inches of left to right play in the tires!!! We replaced it and now it drives super nice, except for the leaf spring bushings...but that's for another post

I read in another thread about someone having 97HD issues with parts. We tried 4 different units before getting one for a 96. Everything bolted up fine on the others except the fluid line fittings were different.

That's because they never break down...wait for it...

...wait for it...

But seriously, I changed a starter in my sister-in-laws Toy and it was super tight...wait for it...wait for it..."she said" . Ok, seriously, it was cramped though.

I got tired of telling myself I was gonna bother fixing it so out it went. This Truck isn't my daily driver anymore anyway I use it about once a week. As for what the next owner wants, well I don't plan on getting rid of it so that wasn't a concern either.
