My batt box is broken and jerry rigged, so I'm thinking about the 6637 mod but I'm not to sure about it. I'm running the acid batts and I'm worried about the batt acid seeping and getting on the element.
Has this been a problem for anyone here?
I will switch to the gell cell batts when the acid ones I have die, but between that time I would hate to find a hole eaten in the filter.
Hey guys how much dust can the 6637 take ? Trying to decide if I should go the 6637 or AIS . I have 02 F450 so at times I do go on dirt roads. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Roger
I got 2 covers from Pete. I drive through alot of dust, just wash the cover when it looks dirty and replace with the clean one! Filter lasts longer this way. I do a light bulb test on the filter when I replace the covers!
Az.scarecrow- I run acid batts, and probably a lot of other guys too. No worries from me as of yet.
homesteader- as I understand they can take quite a bit of dust, but nothing like the AIS will handle.

i think that 98% of the people on this site run lead acid batteries.if your batteries are seeping then there is a biger prob?

If you have leaking batteries, eating holes in you air filter will be the least of your problems.

If you are in that much dust and running a stock set up, you HAVE to do something before you ruin that expensive engine. The 6637 with Pete's cover is great and cheap. The AIS is supposed to be the best, but you pay for the best. Either one is so far better that stock.
Quick ?; what are you using to cut the base (if it needs to be cut for clearance)?
Not sure if year model is making the difference or just different positions of the factory air box base.
I got an 03 and will check clearance before making any cuts. Its my first mod, since I need a new filter.
Batts down here see abuse in the summer time, 110F today, throw in some washboard dirt roads and any acid batts will leak. I had put all my Jeeps on gell cell because or this.
WTH, I'm doing it anyways! Looks like the batt box will still capture any spewage if it happens.

Just a question... how do you do a light bulb test on a #6637 filter. I am getting mine today actually and a cover from Pete is on it's way and I want to make sure I change it often enough. Don't mean to but would like to know. THANKS!!!
Simply stick an uncovered light bulb inside the filter and see how much light you can see through the dirty and dust. Of couse you must remove the filter to do this and for me, if I take it off, I replace it. Pete's covers not only look cool, the will catch a lot of dust and make the 6637 last longer. Just pull it off and wash it out. I am waiting on my new one so I can keep a clean on one there while the other is being washed. Plus my new cover is going to have a kick a$$ graphic on it.
You all twisted my arm!
I went to Car Quest and snaggged the last 6637 for $21.00 with my discount, picked up a 12-rrr and went home. I got it in and it only took five beers, man that was simple.
I pulled the box/tray and cut a little to help the filter set lower. I dont belive I needed that piece anyway lol
I cut me a piece of 4" exhaust about 2.5" long and painted it black.
I slipped in the tube and zip tied the sensor up out of the way.
Attached the 6637 with a clamp, made sure everything was tight and jumped in the pool. The pool is to the far left. lol
Thanks to this group of FTE The sixth one was for you.
