Turbo Guru's

I am trying to decide what to do with my turbo.I usually pull heavy loads, trailer and contents around 25000#.I have the mods in my sig and am getting set to do some more, bellowed up pipes, zoodad and hpx.I have stock injectors ,but may go larger in the future when $ allow.
I have been looking at turbo's and turbo upgrade parts.I have a WW but haven't put it in yet.I would like to get more power and drop my egt's.I am completly ignorant about turbo's and would like to understand better what I should look for.Is getting a new turbo a better option?Or just keeping mine and adding upgrades, bigger combustion housing, wastegate and ebpv delete, ats housing? If I go to a bigger combustion housing how big should I go 1.00 or 1.15?WW or ats housing?Should or could I go with a bigger compressor housing? If I keep mine I plan on rebuilding it while it is out.Should I worry about rebalancing it.
And would I be money ahead just to get a better turbo alltogether?Such as a ball buster or TN?
So it's so long but all these different things have kinda overwhelmed me.

I think you're on the right track. The larger exhaust housing will lower your EGTs for sure. If you think you'll be going with larger injectors, get the larger turbo and be ready for it. However, if you go with the large turbo & exhaust housing now, you'll have some pretty bad turbo lag with the stock sticks. You can go with the 1.0 housing on the stocker and do a bit better without spending a mint. I may go this route myself here shortly. Here's a good place to get one:
99-03turbo

Theres always the turbo off of a 7.3 van to look at too.... i think you can run about 400 hp with them and upgraded sticks as long as you dont go too big.

If you tow heavy like that, don't get big injectors! A good chip will give you a lot of power and you can dial it down to control EGTs, where if you have big injectors, you cannot do anything except slow down on the big hills.
When I am out with the trailer, the total vehicle weight is 24k with 4.88 axle and the EGT is hard to control with any tune above stock.

Joe this is the setup I was looking at for the exhaust side, its alittle more but I'd have the pedestal too.
eBay Motors: 99 03 TURBO 7.3 POWERSTROKE TURBOCHARGER PERFORMANCE (item 110240164934 end time Apr-10-08 17:12:29 PDT)
Dan I hadnt thought of that but it does make sense.Right now I usually run my dp in 40 tow and it does pretty good, not to many mountains around here.If I run it on 20 it rarely hs a problem .I watch the egt's and just pedal it alittle when they start to get out of hand.
Would it help or can you even get a bigger compressor housing .Would not running a wastgate hurt anything? How much boost is to much and would I have to worry about it with an upgraded factory turbo?
Also what about balancing it?When I do the up pipes I am going to take i out so anything that I do turbo wise I would like to do then.
I was also looking into the van turbo ,isnt that basically what I will have with a 1.0 exhaust housing and wastgate delete and ebpv delete.

Yes -- a van turbo is just a stock turbo with a bigger exhaust housing. It will drop your EGTs, and decrease back pressure. I would think it would be a great upgrade for a tow vehicle.

That's a really good deal on all that stuff. Did you get it??

EDIT: Because of the reduced backpressure, the non-wastegated housing is not an issue.

Before you buy a turbo, Cleatus (I think) put a big turbo on his truck and went out towing something big. He came back with high praise for the Ball Buster turbo.

iTS WHAT i HAVE AND i LOVE MINE, I was gonna go with a van turbo but I am gonna get an ATS housing and be the same from what I understand. Anyway with the housing and WW temps will be under control just fine.

P.S. I do have the 6.0ic and I always tow in the 80econo. When I get the ATS I am gonna change my DP 60 tow and get the 80tow, I think it shifts better than the 80 econo under load

If your going to stay stockish, then a 1.00 exhaust housing and a ATS compressor housing is the ticket!

I got my rebuild kit from Ron. Great service, fast shipping, excellent packaging, answered the phone every time I called. I'd say, if you're looking to put that stuff on your stocker, you might as well get the rebuild kit also. I say this because your sig. says 99.5 and if it hasn't already been done, might as well do it while it's out.
