knocking noise

My 1994 F-150 just started this knocking sound yesterday, when i put the truck in reverse it made a vibration. Could this possibly be torque converter problems and not the engine making the noise. I just had the oil changed the day before this happened maybe the different brand of oil? I put in valvoline 10W30 but not sure what was in before as I just bought the truck.

Hard to say what it could be, you will have to listen to the engine and track down the source of the sound. How much oil did you put in? these engines usually take about 6 quarts.

without any more information, i agree with corner gas. the problem is somewhere between your front bumper and the rear bumper.

hopefully you meant quarts and not liters.

When does it knock, and is it a deep noise or more of a rattle?

it only knocks after being warmed up not when it first starts and it is a deep noise not like a lifter ticking.
and i forgot to mention that i drained out the 10W30 and put in 15W40

Thicker oil is not always the best course of action 10w-30 is good enough for these engines unless you are working them real hard. I assume you are from Canada when you said litres, where abouts are you from and excuse my manners, Welcome aboard.

15W40 is way heavy for that truck does it have any major leaks you might be killing the oil pump or maybe your oil isnt draining to the pan and sitting in the valve cover we just had to pull a buddy of mines cover cause he used stop leak DONT USE THAT S*** EVER!!!!! it clogs the drain at the back of the block and makes oil circulation diffacult on you motor

after the initial oil change to 10W30 i only have 75 km's on that oil, i put in 15w40 and drove 50 km's and still the same noise. When i got the truck last week there was not a noise out of the motor on over 500 km's that i put on it. it seems kinda weird to me that this all happened after an oil change.

Don't worry 5.0Torx, a liter and a quart are basically the same volume. Definitely not enough difference to tell on the dipstick. Also, I use 15W-40 just fine. Maybe takes a little longer to pump up, but that's mainly because stupid Fleetguard filters don't hold oil very well. Good filters, but they're designed to be mounted vertically.

sounds to me like the engine has had some type of engine treatment in it before, reducing the knock/tap, and when you changed the oil you lost the treatment and got the knock/tap back, this trick is used alot to doctor up an engine in a vehicle so it can be sold, nobody wants to buy a vehicle with the engine tapping/knocking
