With my lift and all you can see my frame in my wheel wells clearly...What do you use to make it look a little better and hide the rust that isn't so expensive...everything I have tried as pealed off in a month or so.....
The main reason it peels off is because of the original wax coating that came from the factory. To get anything besides rubberized undercoating to stick (even that will come off after a while) you have to clean the frame of the wax coating. Problem is, I don't know of a good way to do it. When I did mine, I tried everything from a torch or a sandblaster and the stuff didn't want to come off clean.
I used the undercoating that Eastwood sells ,it comes in spray or quarts , and brown or black , works and holds up great ,it is sort of a waxy type product like the frame has on it from the factory , Craig.
I knew a guy who would just use the cheapest flat black spray paint he could get. He'd touch the truck up every time he washed it (which was often - typical mall crawler). It always looked good, if you like flat black frames.
yeah that would work, flat black would be fine, I just don't want to go through the hassle of painting it everytime I wash it..once sometimes even twice a week...
If you wan't to do it right the first time I would spray coat the entire frame with Simple Green. Let it soak and high pressure spray with hot water. Once dry remove any old and flaking paint/rust (my assumption is that you mentioned rust so i would guess you don't have to much or any wax on the frame) with a wire brush the best you can. Clean again with the Simple Green and rinse thouroughly Then coat with a high quality rust preventer like some of the Por materials from Eastwood or equiv.
