If the ignition was left on for two days, the fuel shut off solenoid may be cooked.

It uses fuel flow to cool, so ignition on and engine not running is not a good combination.

As for glow plugs, Motorcraft/Beru ZD 9 glow plugs are the only ones that will ever go in my engine.

I started this thread a little while ago for cases just like this,

online sources for BERU/Motorcraft glow plugs:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...low-plugs.html

I once had to get a set from a local ford dealer and the plugs for my 6.9 were $24 each. The going rate online is around $10 each. If you buy from the states, be careful with UPS, they like to charge brokerage fees even though they are not supposed to.

I would still check the ones you have to see if they are still good, its easier and cheaper than replacing them. Although theres no harm in having a spare set. Its not too cold in my corner of canada usually, but I still would be lost without a good set of glow plugs.

Thanks for the info fordman90, I stand corrected. BTW thanks for the info. I still say use a temperature limiting GP and don't worry about burning them out ever again. I just finished reading the instructions regarding bypassing the controller. If you were to use AC12G or Autolite 1109 GP you could eliminate the controller like everyone likes to. You could simply install a switch and play Russian Roulette. It's your choice. I'd invest $10.00 in a 12G and try it out. I think you will be pleased with the results. They are temperature limiting and will not overheat as long as you use them in a 12 Volt system.

The ignition was at a setting where the box light and radio are on and we have left it at that setting numerous times while working near with the light and radio on

The IP gets pretty warm under normal operating conditions when the engine is running. I can't imagine the FSS putting out enough heat to get itself that hot. The case of the IP is aluminum and can disipate a fair amount of head.
