I have a 65 f100 I have I have installed 79 disk brakes on. Does anybody know if there is a rotor that I can use that has the small bolt patern (5 on 4 1/2) and will work with the 79 spindle?
To my knowledge there isn't a rotor that will bolt onto the 79 spindle to reduce the bolt pattern. With that said though, have you called a machine shop to see what they say about making a new bolt pattern on the rotors? I know you can have 9" axles redone or just buy new ones to install. Swapping out to a different rear axle will be more of a pain then I think it is worth. If you have to rebuild your 9" they aren't that hard to do since most of the parts drop out once the hardware is removed.
Ford did use 5-4.5 inch bolt circle rotors on some 80-83 (maybe up to 85) light duty 1/2 ton 4x2's. Compare the bearing numbers and rotor height, thickness, etc. to see if they would work on your 79 spindles. I can check some part numbers for you tomorrow. On second thought, there are still quite a few wheel choices in 5-5.5. Dodge still uses the pattern even on '08 1/2 ton Rams. Good luck.
Okay here goes. You might try Raybestos part# 6072 on the rotor. That is the 80-83 5-4.5 F100 rotor. The bearing and seal numbers are the same from 73-96 on all F100/F150 4X2's. Rotor dimensions are slightly different so you would probably have to try one to see if it would fit for sure. Things to check would be spindle length and caliper fitment. The caliper part #'s are different on a 80-83 F100 depending on whether it is a 5-4.5 or 5-5.5 bolt pattern. I do not know if the 80-83 F100 caliper for the truck with 5-4.5 bolt pattern will fit on the 79's caliper mount. Hope this helps.
The early 80's F100 rotors will not work.Wheel bearings are the same,so it fits on spindle but the caliper spacing is different, unless you fab a new cailper mount its a no go.
