I have a 89 F150 that I am thinking of fitting some long tube headers to. What do I use to go from the collectors to a single 3" pipe? I want to replace the whole system myself. Are there any types to stay away from?? I have been told that my truck has a 5.8 bottom end with HO mustang heads. I am not sure if it is possible, but I have had trouble buying parts over the years.. Would this be a problem for the headers??
Here's the scoop.. the 5.0HO from a mustang and the truck motors.. both 5.0 and 5.8.. use the same heads. There are a few other heads that appeared on these motors over the years, but besides the GT40's and the '86 mustang E6SE heads there's no big difference worth talking about in all of them.
So you won't have any problem finding headers for these trucks at places like Summit. MAC made a complete system including longtubes for these trucks but I don't know if they still do. Short of that you're left to your own devices to come up with a Y-pipe assembly, here's what I did using some mendrel bent J sections and other parts.. https://www.ford-trucks.com/lc/lc.ph...02815866941%2F
