Unhappy 1986 ranger problems

Hi

Have a 1986 ranger with 2.9 FI and i am having fuel problem.
The pump in the tank was screaming real loud and i figured it was about to go out . i went to pull out of the drive and it would idle but not go then it finally quit all together and i did not here the wining anymore so i dropped the tank and put a new pump in. The pump on the frame rail works when take it off and test it but i still have no fuel and no power to either pump. I checked all fuses and and none are blown and none are marked fuel pump so i replaced the relay still nothing help! is there a another relay or a hidden fuse ?

The pumps will not have power if the engine is not running except for a couple of seconds at ignition turn on. Do the pumps run momentarily at ignition on? If yes, you have other problems.

If no, the pump feed is thru a fuse link at the fender starter relay thru the contacts on the fuel pump relay. If there is 12v present the fuse link is ok.

The fuel pump relay is controlled by the EEC relay. At ignition on, the EEC relay closes supplying 12v to the fuel pump relay coil. The ground side of the fuel pump relay is controlled by the computer. When the computer detects ignition pulses from the distributor, it supplies ground to the relay starting the pump.

You can ground this point, tan/ltgrn wire, and the pump should run all the time you have the ignition switch on. This is the point that is grounded on the self test connector if you know what this is.

You can try switching the relays with a known good one also. jd
