i need help i have a 1981 f-250 which i have replaced the hubs twice now,im waiting to replace the 3rd set.the first set was old the 2nd set roasted the internal locker,i had both warn and mile markers neither lasted they keep kicking themselves out,has anyone ever seen or heard of this problem,i would be very thankful !
the inside gears,of the hubs and yes i know, thats why i got mile markers messed them up even more,we went out mudding they worked for about an hour or so,started slowly across this3 ft mud hole as i eased up to the bank on the otherside and started powering up,they disengaged, with the axles spinning its like the springs wouldnt hold the gear back over the axle shaft
Take it back apart and put it together about 10 times. Something is wrong somewhere or not put together right. This is not a common problem. Make sure you have the locknuts for the wheel bearings on there correctly. Here's a picture.
ok for those of u who r getting the perception im not mechanicaly inclined,ur wrong,i know what a hub is and wheel bearings with the jam nuts,i also know how the hubs r put together,i have had them apart, how do u think i found out what was broke, there factory assembled and yes the factory makes mistakes, but they didnt,i've checked the spindle bearings, replaced all the front axle u-joints,seals,boots.axle splines r good as well as the spiders, ring and pinion.i have asked everyone i know who has worked on or owned one of these older fords,i even called ford-mistake!and i know this is not common, but im sure im not the only one who has had this problem.i need help not sarcasm! anyone else that has a descent reply?
I don't think Franklin was giving you sarcasm, he was just trying to figure out what is going on. This isn't a very common problem so sometimes you have to assume that something isn't put together right without actually being there to witness the problem.
In all my time here on FTE, I don't remember a time I've seen Franklin give bad advice or sarcasm for the fun of it, so a little less attitude from you would go a long way to improve your responses here.
ok,franklin i appoligize if i took your advice the wrong way, thanks for trying.as far as this problem goes,i have a brand new set of warns installed,im going muddin tomorrow.as far as posting 3 threads on the same topic,,,i didnt realize how that worked,i do now. thanks to all
The sarcasm was directed toward me(when I was thinking and typing) but that didn't come through in the post. I usually have to take something apart 10 times before I figure it out.
If only one side is doing it, you may have to take the other side apart, clean it up really good, and inspect and compare it to the side that is not working right.
i did that too,i did in fact take the cap covers off,and stuck 2 metal pins on each side to basically do the springs job of pushing in and holding the gear back over the axle splines in the yard with the rear drive shaft removed, and hammered down on the throttle, they held up.put the caps on went to the mud hole.i removed the metal pins first of course.but then the hubs disingaged themselves.
