I have the Racor set up and it worked real well on my 6.9. The older set up indeed put air into the system. The new mount also had a "primer" which helped when cahnging filters.
By the way, how often do most of you change these filters?
Yes it will, but you will have to wire an external sensor if you want the "water in fuel" light to work. Same would be true if you went with a 7.3 style filter.
Can you not just remove the pull ring bolt & replace with a regular bold to seal off this opening. Then place a valve at the bottom of the original Water separator unit?
I am not a Diesel expert so I am just asking will this not work?
Take it off and chunk it in the garbage,,,go to NAPA get part# 4309 and part# 3123 it will bolt up where the old one was then you are fixed..
so let’s say I buy this kit with the filter.. what happens with the 3 prong plug? What will I need to hook that up to in order for my water in fuel light to still work?

What 3 prong plug are you talking about? The 7.3 IDI uses a single round right angle plug attached the water in fuel sensor on the bottom of the fuel bowl (or aftermarket filter when the sensor is swapped to the filter). The water in fuel sensor has a threaded contact where the plug goes.

Just was wondering how buying the Napa kit, the light for the water in fuel would work
