Gear Swap

I've got an '06 Crew Cab V-10 with the 4:30 rear. What kind of improvement in highway fuel economy can be realized by switching? At 75 on cruise, I'm getting about 12.5 mpg.

Can the switch be done? Cost? I tow a 6000 lb boat about 60 miles, but drive solo about 600 miles a couple times a month so the highway econ is big.

WTF you finally found this place. I will switch you my 3.73 for your 4.30, To me you got the perfect set up for the V10. Remember these things are big heavy trucks and fuel mileage isnt the greatest. Leave it alone the cost will not be worth it. Rememer its 4x4 so you would have to do front as well as rear last time i got a quote to go 4:30 was around 1600.00.

Your wasting your money if you swap to a higher gear ratio. If you want to reduce your RPMs on the highway then swap to a bigger tire like a 285/75/R16. Maybe even 35s if you throw on a leveling kit. But look at a gear ratio chart to see where you want your V10 to be spinning at on the highway.

Chart Gear Ratio

Call these guys they are the best at what they do, very cool to talk to as well.

Unitrax • Differential and driveline parts and service. Ratio Changes & Overdrives. Using parts from the most reliable companies in the drivetrain industry: Dana Spicer, American Axle, Timken, Gear Vendors, Torsen, Federal Mogul and Schaeffer's & Syn

Ask him about the 3:73 I will switch you for sure and maybe all we have to pay for is the labor?
