I posted a question a couple weeks ago about it not starting. It was suggested I check the fuel pressure regulator. It seems fine. After walking away and letting it sit for a week, I got it started yesterday. It ran rough and blew out all kinds of smoke like it was running very rich. It would not idle. Would only run when throttled up. I put it in gear and it died immediately. Smoke started coming from transmission area like fluid had been spilled and it was burning off. It smelled like burnt trans fluid. Pulled trans dipstick and it too smelled burnt.
It seem the trans or something there is the problem, but would it make the truck hard to start and run so rough? The trans has about 190000 miles and the engine has about 65000 miles. Any ideas or suggestions?
The vacuum harness on a 302 EFI runs under the upper intake to the rear, bends around the rear of the intake, and runs back up the right outside of the right bank to the passenger fender well. If something is burning and/or throwing that much heat from your transmission it could easily have burned or melted that vacuum harness, which in turn could easily cause the running problems you described.
