Of course you can count rotations, make sure you count accurately and watch closely where the pinion stops at around the 3 rev mark 3.0 to 3.7 is pretty close.
Maybe you will have to take out the third member too.

Another way...as long as the axle hasn't been swapped.
Look on the WARRANTY PLATE, on the left door face below the latch for the AXLE code.
Post it here.
Ford rear axle ID tag location: Under one of the ten bolts that holds the pumpkin (carrier) to the housing at approx 5 o'clock (don't be surprised if it's missing).
