UPDATE:

Ok, so here is what we've done since the last post I made:

re-set the valve, twice just to be sure (as per monsterbabys way)!

Changed the springs (weaker)/spacer on the MSD distributor.

bought a brand new Holly carb (which did make a big difference in the way the truck idled).

Findings:

The truck starts better, idles better, and runs better than it did when I first posted, BUT, the vacuum dropped, and the low end pull, is nothing like it was with the smaller port, re-worked heads.

The trans now shifts slow. It used to slam into gear braking the tires loose with you hoof into the pedal. Probably due the loss of vacuum.

When trying to set the timing, it is jumping all over the place!!

That said, today I am going to put all the old stuff back on (less the old carb).

I am totally aggravated, frustated, and I just want to drive this truck without having to tweak it everytime I drive it.

So if you know anyone looking for some very nice, low mile aluminum heads,
and assorted parts, please let me know.

Again, I want to thank everyone here for their help!

Dean
