A friend has a F-150 that when he gets to 55 miles anhour the overdrive light on the button goes off and on. The trans seems to slip. What might be his problem. Could it be the solenoid in the trans?
Thanks for the help.

My friend has read the replies. He says that the light just keeps on blinking off and on after he reaches 55mph. There is no code, it's just a off-n-on.
I had the same thing happen in my '97. Wasn't getting any code on the scanner borrowed from Advance, so I took it to Aamco and they read a P0503 code. Vehicle Speed Sensor or Sensor gear code. Replaced the sensor and the plastic gear on the output shaft from the transfer case. ~45 minutes and $25. 6 months later it started doing the same thing so I replaced the speed sensor gear and the output shaft gear. Shame I didn't see this topic before last weekend. Could have taken some pictures while I was replacing it. Search for P0503 in the 1997-2003 forum and you'll find a few different posts on this problem. If none of them helps let me know and I'll try to give a good description on replacing these gears. I can also probably get the Ford part numbers if it has the same transfer case. Your friend may have fixed the problem already, but if not hope this helps!
