Hello from NorCal...SOS !

Hey there...My name is Chuck & I'm a new guy to the forum from Sacramento, CA. I drive a '00 F250 SD w/7.3l PS Auto, 4x4, CC, LB and loving it...best truck I've owned and I've had a few. The only mods I have are a superchip, 4" exhaust, K&N intake, wicked wheel and alloy wheels w/Toyo ATs. I use it to haul my family of 5 around the mountains, tow a 28' TT, a 19' RB boat and load up M/Cs in the bed. The powerstroke has been bulletproof but I just wished fuel prices can go back down to the level they were at when I bought the truck...prices are absolutely ridiculous. I'm feeling for the truckers.

Anyhow...I am very new to the forum and have not been a lurker . I do 95% of service & PM work on the truck. I've had very good luck (knock on wood) with everything and I'm running close to 120k now. Biggest issues have been the front axle...replaced seals twice & a wheel hub on right side.

Couple things I'm currently working on that steered me here...

1) Front hubs didn't lock up yesterday while pulling boat out of water yesterday at a poorly maintained launch ramp. GRRRRR!!! Will check vacuum hoses today after I clean all the mud off the rear of truck and boat. Why did the hubs not lock in after I turned it to the lock position ???

I'll probably R&R the OEM with Warns after that episode. ESOF is nice but getting stuck is not acceptable. It took 4 male adults bouncing up and down in the back of the bed to get traction. Can you imagine hauling around 4 large, carousing male adults with large bellys everywhere just so you don't get stuck ? R&R the hubs sound more cost efficient.

2) Last summer I got a code of low/high ICP pressure while towing up some steeps. Truck ran fine so I just cleared the code. Very recently developed a rough idle and "missing" at ~1.5k+ cruising. First action was new oil & filter...Rotella 15/40. It seemed to help but problem was still there. My next thought was a HPOP or ICP problem. So I have been searching to find an inexpensive used one.

So now I hear about the CPS recall from last Fall...but didn't receive a notice I'm calling the dealer today and get the recall done <fingers crossed="">. It's my understanding a faulty CPS could cause rough idling as well as a dreaded shut down. I keep a spare in the glove box.

These questions have probably been asked already & I'll be spending lots a time cruising thru the forum...to get some answers to these questions & more such as, "why are we here ?"

I know...

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the link, my ESOF has been driving me nuts lately, I've done several searches but failed to turn up that link. I noticed that was for a 2003 service year, have you found your '00 to be the same configuration? I too am thinking about switching to manual hubs.

Welcome to FTE Chuck!
I think you will find that the general consensus around here is that ESOF is a PITA. I'm gonna be changing mine to manuals also, as soon as they start giving me grief.

Hello...IMO it's the same. I do believe the '99 to '03 SuperDuty are the same...any rebuttals ? I actually have the 2000.5 powerstroke. I might have more of a problem than hubs since my manual lock did not engage the front axle...maybe a transfer case issue. I hope it's just a wire or something. Either way...it's time to get dirty.

Thanks Steve ! I've found ton's of good as well as useless info on the site

Seriously though...I told my wife the time I spent on this forum just today has already saved me a few hundred bucks and hours wasted I would have spent otherwise.
