302 Oil Pan

Greetings,

I am currently installing a 1970 302 in my '50 Ford F-1. I need change the oil pan to a "front sump" one. My question is : How do I tell by looking at an oil pan if it is a front sump or not??? I have one but can't determine what it is.
Thanks

i belive it should have the lowest point in the front...example..my 302 pan for my 85 F150 has the lowest point in the back because it has to fit around the cross member...cud be wrong but i'm pretty sure that is what it means

1968/72.

If the engine's from a car, it has a front sump oil pan (D0OZ-6675-C).

If it's from an Econoline (DITZ-6675-C) or Bronco (C6TZ-6675-D), it's a rear sump pan.

F100's use a different pan (C9TZ-6675-B) than any of these, but I dunno whether it has front or rear sump.

Does the lowest part of the oil pan also contribute to which sump it is? I have a 302 from a '78 LTD II which is in a bronco. So that would be a front sump, but I think the lowest part of the pan is in the back. Is that right?

The placement of the drain plug is in the sump, so that should help visually if you don't know otherwise what you are looking for...

Question.. Where should the sump be at on a 73F100 with a 302? Mine is in the front. I pulled the casting numbers awhile back and the block was out of a 72 Torino/Fairlane.

Thanks

How do you know the engine is from a Torino?

Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to part numbers.

Casting numbers for a Torino block will be the same for a Mustang, or any other 302 bare block from the time frame.

The same engine bare block part number was used on all vehicles 1968/70: C8ZZ-6010-A.

That part number was replaced in 1971 with D1TZ-6010-B.

The same thing holds true for the cylinder heads.

C9TZ-6675-B .. Oil Pan / Fits: 1969/79 F100/150 302.

You are correct I used it as a part number Oops!

Inexperience... Thank you for pointing that out.

I wish I had known about this forum when I did that. Never thought to ask about it again.

I will look for the numbers and at the pan tomorrow.

Thanks

Ok

The casting numbers are D20E-6015-AB 3F21

I couldn't find the numbers on the pan. ( need to clean that )

I looked again and the sump ( big end with plug in it ) is in the front.

Does it really matter where it is? Or did I freak for nothing? LOL

Thanks again
