Went to finally finish up my front drop. Finish putting in the new king pins into the disc spindles and went to install them on the DJM beam. Inside the DJM box - two driver side beams. I'm calling them today and will let you know how thay are to deal with. Annoying part is I only get one day a week to work on the truck and it is in my Dad's garage 25 miles away. I could have had the entire front end back under the truck.
Plus side is I got to spend an entire Saturday in the garage with my Dad and my son. Dad, a retired mechanic, showed me how to do the brass bushings with a manual bushing tool and a manual reamer. Pretty easy if you have the tools.
Wow Thanks Wally. I'll call them to confirm, their instructions say that the king pin should angle towards the cab, passenger side would angle towards the front of the truck. Should have just dragged in the originals and compared them. Sounds like their instructions are a little lacking in detail.
I did get them from Summit, yep free shipping and lower price than DJM. I was going to call DJM because it is their box and packaging. I built MyGarage at Summit's web site and just go there once a month, pick sometihng I pre-selected and buy it. Nice feature.
That's great! Keep us updated. I want to use those beams also but still have some reservation. What tires/wheels will you be fitting? I want to use colored smoothie's but I am not sure how much meat I will be able to fit with the lowering. Any ideas?
You and I seem to be after the same thing. I plan on using Wheel Vintiques Genie model with the V8 caps and step trim and big ole white walls. Red rims, red interior and White body. Right now the truck is on 15x8 with some big fat street tires, I'm hoping to go 15x8 front and 15x10 rear. Will let you know.
We are on the same page for sure! Let me know how it turns out. I would like the tens in back also but wasn't sure what backspace was necessary. Talk to you soon.
Called DJM last night and spoke to Grant. Indeed both sides MUST have the king pin angle back towards the cab. So what I have right now is two driver sides. They were absolutely fantastic to deal with. Will ship correct part, arranged pick up of wrong part, and gave me a deal on the rear drop to make up for the front part mix up. I was impressed with the quality of the product, even more so with the company now.
Sounds like they are getting over their past issues. I have read much worse about them but it was from some time ago. That is good news. Good luck. I amy have to get some after all.
