Talking Transmission Troubles

Hey all, I know I must be getting irritating asking all these questions but, this is the place for answers. I am having some troubles with my transmission shifting early, 1st to 2nd occurs at about 15 mph, 2nd to 3rd occurs at around 25 mph so you can imagine what I sound like going to work in the morning. I hope to be able to take it to Lee Myles and see what they have to say about it but I was hoping that you guys could shed some light on my problems. Thanks for the help so far.

They make pills for that now-
Seriously, though, either the vacuum modulator is bad or the vacuum line popped off it.

It -should- be a round can just above the rear edge of the pan on the right hand side, with a vacuum line coming out of it.
There will be fluid behind this thing, just so you know. And a steel rod that you really shouldn't loose.

I got my 350 cheap when i bought it because of the same thing hard shifting at higher speeds. Just the vacum line, when they replaced the engine they never reconnected it. hooked it back and everything worked great.

I just checked it. The vaccum line is hooked into a three place hookup with two of the spots covered over with tape and the to the tranny coming from the center place. The line looks fine to me, the modulator looks good also, no oil in the line so I think it may be from the connector not being caped off properly. The only other thing I can think of now is either the modulator is bad or the connector on the manifold is not sealed any more. I think that I'll try to recap it before I replace the modulator. If that dosen't work then I don't know what else it could be.

I just got back from the transmission shop and found the likely cause of the problem. It is my Throttle Link or lack thereof. For what ever reason that piece is gone from the transmission and now need to be replaced. So I just need to find one, any suggestions on where to look.

I figured out how to make one from an old Halloween ornament. Just took the rod and bent it to fit. Now I have a kickdown at throttle, but its still shifting early. I guess I'll have to change the Modulator Valve. May as well change the fluid and filter while I'm at it. Just one question, where do I stick the fluid? The only thing I can think of is down the dipstick tube.

Might a bum speedo cable also be the cause? The truck is showing about 10 mph faster than actual speed right now.

Was there a possible tire size change and/or gear change for the speedometer.

Tire Size change I believe. But that said, the engine and transmission are not what was in there the day it was sold off the lot. Used to have a 292 and crusie0o0matic, now has a 351 and c6.
