How many quarts?

I dropped a rebuilt 302 engine in my 74 F-100 and put a Lokar dip stick on it. 6 quarts of oil (with a filter) is way short of hitting the add line. Possibly the pan is deeper than the old one and needs more oil to be correctly filled. Does anyone know the correct depth of pans that came on the motors? The pan appears stock on the outside but I never pulled the pan before I dropped in the motor. Oil pressure is excellent and consistent so the pump P/U must be below the oil level. Thanks

I'm not exactly sure about your particular 302's oil pan,but I have a EFI302,in my 1990 Bronco that takes 7 quarts of oil with a filter change. I ,too, thought something was wrong, but here it turned out that my Bronco had a towing package on it that included an extra capacity pan.At first I thought the pan might have been an aftermarket one,but it isn't. Your 302 might have an aftermarket oil pan on it, or it could've been part of a certain factory towing package.Normally,I think the 302's refill capacity is 5 quarts without a filter change, and 6 quarts with a filter change.Mine is 6 without,or 7 with.I'd look to see if you can read a FoMoCo part # off the pan.If it doesn't have one, then you know it's an aftermarket one.
