Never wash them because they get waterproof. I save all my old hats and hang them on the wall in all their glory. They get covered in oil, grease, diesil, gas, dirt, moose, caribou blood and every thing else. Have to watch they wife though or she will trow them out.
Have had a couple of hats sink in the river and left a little slick behind. Lost one when it was blown off my head and fell into the fire and went up in flames.

it is sacreligious to wash a baseball hat, unless you are metrosexual! there dirt and grime tell a story about the man under the hat. let god wash em when you get caught out in a torrential downpour, as he did mine today. It takes a lomg time to properly train a hat and make it like a second scalp, dont mess with them. when they get to bad to wear to someplace "clean" start training a new one! I love my old worn, dirty hats, all of them!! just my .002 Dan

Only when you're on a hitting streak.

Otherwise, I hand wash mine.

I wash mine in the sink by hand, periodically (maybe once every 6 months, depending), usually during the summer when they get that waxy crap on the sweatband from me sweating in it all the time. Also my hat is...well, was black, and if you sweat in it a lot it leaves white residue on the bill and around the front of the cap so I like to wash that out.
