"P" Button

I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer Excursion, 6.0 Diesel, 2wd, and I need to know the purpose of the "P" button on the dashboard. It's a pushbutton - once on, once off. Have read the manual from end to end and can't find an explanation of this button. Help!

Sounds like the button to turn off the reverse sensing system.

That's it.

The button disables the warning chime from the back-up sensors on your rear bumper.

Yep. That's how it works. It is just a single shot disabling button for the reverse alarm. When you go out of reverse, it resets.

A real PITA when backing a camper into a campground.

Wild thing is...... My wife has an 05 EB Explorer. When you hit the button on that, it only resets when the motor is turned off. I like that feature much more.

It not only is a PTA when parking the trailer,it also senses the trailer hitch ball when the trailer isn't there..It doesn't matter if it's covered or not.I don't take my hitch off when we get home as we usually go out a couple of times amonth and I'm kinda lazy about that.. Besides, when tailgators get up close and see that thing, they usually back off a bit.. Especially when the brake lites flash a little..
