292 mystery problem

I have a 1957 292 y block that was running perfect until yesterday and is completely stock. When the motor is not running and I step on the gas pedal the carburetor opens freely 100%. When I start the motor and step on the gas pedal I can put it all the way to the floor and the carburetor will only open about 3/8 of an inch , what gives ? It`s put my ride out of commission and making me crazy !!!! PLEASE HELP, THANKS
