The Swagelok fittings use a slightly different principle than the "regular" ferrule-type compression rings. They use a SS wedge ring that bites into the OD of the tubing and locks to it. The face of the wedge serves as the seat for the joint. Properly done (you are supposed to buy a make-up gauge) the joints are rated leaktight to 3,000 psi and higher. The best part is that once made up, you can disconnect and reconnect the joint with out any loss of integrity. The bad part is they aren't cheap because they are industrial quality.

The scrap bins at the sites I work at are full of 304L SS tubing used for control air lines and 316L used for sample tubing, all with Swagelok fittings on them. Unfortunately they don't allow picking thru the bins, or my entire truck would be plumbed with it.

I'm going to Swageloc in the morning to get what I need. I'll take a piece of the SS line with me to make sure I get the right stuff. Thanks to all I new if I ask someone would have an answer. Always do.

The fittings ALBUQ F-1 is describing are incredible fittings! They are the cream of the crop. We used to use them on Atlas/Centaur and Titan/Centaur Missiles when I was testing those. I didn't realize that they were commercially available without selling a kidney. I think we paid over $100 each for them in the mid 80s

"Yep thems rocket parts on my truck Junior!"

Bob; Good Q; I was given about a 200' roll. So I thought I would try to use some of it. It's just taking up space.
